MR SHAFQAT ALI INQALABI HAS OPENED A NOVEL AND VERY USEFUL OPENING FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS. a letter of comments by Rehmat Khan Balti

Abdul Rehman" rehmankhanbalti@yahoo.com

In accordance with the explanation given in the supreme court of Pakistan by Attorney General of the Govt of Pakistan,on the disputed status of Gilgit-Baltistan (Northern Area Province of the State of J&K on 1 August 1947), the people of Northern areas have as yet to decide that they want to join India or Pakistan.This means that both the neighbouring countries are equal to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.Govt of Pakistan is committing continuous attrocities of all kinds on the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and is depriving them of all their fundamental rights.So called Karakorum University recently established in Gilgit is a den of ISI spies, non local pseudo intellectuals and hub of conspiracies aimed at providing livelihood to non locals and gradually grab the lands of the locals. The Pathan Vice Chancellor of the University openly describes him as a Pathan Nationalist. Recently, a non local retd Brigadier was fraudlently employed in the University without abiding to even an iota of procedures and rules. There is no dearth of qualified people from Gilgit-Baltistan to handle these jobs. I appreciate the contents of the posting containing various demands for the students of Pakistan Occupied Bolor portion of Gilgit-Baltistan. Even after the qualification of these students, the employment quota of the students of Gilgit-Baltistan is grabed by the Pathans, by putting FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas of NWFP Agencies) and FANA (Federally Administered Northern Areas i.e. Gilgit-Baltistan) seats /quota in educational institutions and employment togather. We therefore are fully justified in demanding the following also from the Indian Govt.

1. Seats in superior civil services academy. There is no CSS qualified local bureaucrat from the entire Gilgit-Baltistan. The quota is grabbed by FATA. There is no electricity in Gilgit to study and there is always curfew, section 144 and Govt sponsored terrorism.
2. We want a good number of seats in the Indian Military Academy, Deradhun for our next generations. Our people are basically soldiers and there has never been a fighting General from Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. We will be very happy to get a good number of seats in Indian Army Academy.
3. We should be getting adequate vacancies in all possible technical, medical, engineering, social sciences institutions.

4. We should also be getting quota like Gorkhas in the Indian Army for our down trodden masses. Gen Perwaiz Musharaff has significantly reduced our class composition in Northern Light Infantry Batallion. Indian Army NLI regiments should be raised by recruiting people from Gilgit-Baltistan. HOW ALL THIS CAN BE MADE POSSIBLE IS FOR THE INDIAN LEADERSHIP TO WORK UPON ?

PoK students want seats in IIM/IITs!

Sheela Bhatt in New Delhi | May 23, 2006 20:08 IST

Students of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have demanded reservation for them in India's elite educational institutions.

"We want quotas in the Indian Institute of Management, the Indian Institute of Technology and law colleges of India. India should not ignore us," said Shafquat Ali Inqlabi, a resident of Gilgit, told rediff.com.
Inqlabi and other 18 others are visiting India to participate in a conference organised by the New Delhi-based Institute for Conflict Management to discuss 'Alternative Futures' for Jammu and Kashmir on May 19-20.

* Srinagar: Negligence yet again
Inqlabi says, "Indian maps always show Gilgit and Baltistan as part of India. The Constitution of India mentions that we are part of India. In your eyes, we are Indians and Pakistan has 'occupied' Indian territory. Then, why should we not get admissions in the IIMs and the IITs?" he says, adding,  I want to study law in the best of Indian law colleges. Help me get admission."
One of the demands made in a resolution unanimously passed by the conference -- which had the tacit support of Indian government -- says, 'The Government of India should provide openings in higher, professional and technical educational institutions to deserving students from Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, who are denied necessary facilities for such education.'

The Karakoram University is the only institution for higher studies in Gilgit-Baltistan. The members of the delegation claimed that it does not have proper facilities. Inqlabi, a political activist, says, "India should either accept us as Indians or give up claim on the territory."
In view of the All Party Hurriyat Conference's rejecting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's invitation to attend the second roundtable conference on Kashmir, the conference presented the ground realities about the future of Kashmir.

Editor of Public Opinions and Trends Sushant Sareen says, "The prime minister's roundtable on Kashmir has shown that there is no uniformity of views amongst Kashmiris. The region carries a multiplicity of views. Hurriyat, which is a non-entity, is getting attention it doesn't deserve. It's high time the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, who have been denied rights by Pakistan, and the people of PoK get our attention."
Dr Ajaya Sahni, who organised the meeting, said, "Unfortunately, discussions on Kashmir are overwhelmingly defined by people who resort to terrorism. People who are displaced, marginalised and the voices of non-violence are neglected. Now is the time to respect those voices that have rejected terrorism."
